WiFi Detective ("the app") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the app accesses and how it is used.
In short
The app does not collect, store, or send any personal data to its own servers. All scanning and measurements happen entirely on your device. The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob (see below).
Information we access and why
- Network/WiFi state (ACCESS_WIFI_STATE, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): to list devices on the network you are connected to, and to show signal strength and connection status.
- Internet (INTERNET): for the speed test (connecting to Cloudflare's speed server), connectivity checks, and ad serving. The app does not transmit your personal data.
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): to alert you when a device joins or leaves your network.
- Foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE): to monitor your network in the background when you enable "continuous monitoring". You can turn it off at any time.
Data we do not collect
- Location data is never requested or used.
- Personal data such as name, e-mail, phone number, or contacts is not collected.
- Scanned device information (IP, MAC, name) is shown only on your device and never sent to any server.
Data stored locally
Saved signal points, outage history, and the "known devices" list are kept only in your device's own storage. Uninstalling the app deletes this data.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version of the app shows ads via Google AdMob. AdMob may process identifiers such as your device's advertising ID to serve ads and prevent fraud. This processing is performed by Google and is subject to the Google Privacy Policy.
- Users in the European Economic Area and the UK are shown a consent screen for ad personalization (Google UMP). You can change your choice at any time.
- You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalized ads in Android settings.
- The Pro version shows no ads.

Payments
The Pro purchase is processed through Google Play. We never see or store your payment information; the transaction is handled entirely by Google.
Third parties
- Google AdMob: ad serving in the free version.
- Cloudflare: the measurement server used during the speed test.
- Google Play Billing: for purchases.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
This policy may be updated. Significant changes will be announced in the app or on this page.
